Direct-to-bill payments for mobile operators |

In this paper, we explore why it is that mobile devices, which have such a
strong personal relationship with consumers, have failed to live up to the
early expectations of the mobile industry and become a significant digital
media alongside broadcast television and the Internet.
We then look at the main barriers to growth and show that the current use of
Premium Rate SMS billing will hinder commercial growth over the next ten years.
We conclude by demonstrating that Direct-to-Bill payments provide an
attractive alternative to Premium SMS for both the mobile operators and
